About

Since 2006, I am a faculty member of Indiana University’s Department of Telecommunications in Bloomington, United States (currently: Associate Professor). Until 2011 I also held a joint appointment as Professor of Journalism and New Media at Leiden University, The Netherlands.

Publications include seven books, including "Media Work" (Polity Press, 2007) and "Managing Media Work" (Sage, 2010), guest-edited special issues of journals on media work, creative industries, and convergence culture (w/Henry Jenkins for Convergence, 2008; w/John Banks for the International Journal of Cultural Studies, 2009; w/Tim Marjoribanks for Journalism Theory Practice & Criticism 2009), and articles in journals such as The Information Society, New Media & Society, and the International Journal of Cultural Studies.

Currently, I'm working on two new books: "Media Life", a thematic text on the consequences of life as lived in (rather than with) media, to be published by Polity Press (Fall 2011), and "Beyond Journalism", a theoretical work exploring the potential of conceptualizing journalism as through the acts of journalists outside of journalism (and independent of media), again contracted with Polity Press (publication date not set).

If you are interested in working with me on these and related topics, please feel free to contact me. I especially welcome requests to pursue graduate (MS, MA, PhD) work at Indiana University!
